Collection: Howlite

Howlite is a calcium borosilicate mineral that is naturally white with grey or black web-like veining. It was first described in Nova Scotia, and is also found in California and Turkey.

Varieties and Trade Names

It is porous and takes dye very well, so you will see it in many colours. Blue and green howlite are dyed howlite, and dyed blue howlite is one of the most common imitations of turquoise. It is sometimes sold under misleading names such as white turquoise or turquenite. It is also dyed to imitate lapis lazuli and coral.

PureTrade Gems supplies wholesale howlite to UK shops, market traders and other trade buyers.
