Collection: Jade

Jade is actually a name for two different minerals, jadeite and nephrite. They look very similar, which is why they share a name.

Varieties and Trade Names

Canadian jade is nephrite from British Columbia, so it is genuine jade. Serpentine jade is serpentine, a softer green mineral that has long been used as a jade alternative. New jade is also serpentine, usually bowenite, as are Korean jade and Suzhou jade. Mountain jade and New Mountain jade are trade names usually given to dyed dolomite marble. Names like South China jade do not refer to one specific material, and stones sold under them are usually not jadeite or nephrite.

Other names you may see include Transvaal or African jade, which is green garnet, Indian jade, which is aventurine, and Malaysia jade, which is dyed quartz.

PureTrade Gems supplies wholesale jade to UK shops, market traders and other trade buyers.
