Collection: Lapis Lazuli

Lapis lazuli is a rock rather than a single mineral. It is made up mainly of blue lazurite, with white calcite and brassy gold flecks of pyrite. Afghanistan has been the main source for thousands of years.

Varieties and Trade Names

The most prized lapis is an even deep blue with little calcite. Chilean lapis tends to be lighter, with more white calcite. Lapis with lots of calcite mixed through it has a faded denim look and is sometimes sold as denim lapis. Some lapis is dyed to even out the colour. Sodalite is sometimes called poor man's lapis because of its similar blue.

PureTrade Gems supplies wholesale lapis lazuli to UK shops, market traders and other trade buyers.
