Collection: Turquoise

Turquoise is a hydrated copper aluminium phosphate. It forms in dry regions where copper-rich groundwater soaks through the rock, and the dark veins are traces of that surrounding rock, known as matrix. Please note, the stones currently in this collection are turquoise alternatives rather than genuine turquoise. Details are below.

Varieties and Trade Names

Much turquoise is stabilised, meaning it is treated with resin to harden it and fix the colour. Persian turquoise is a historic name for the finest even sky blue. Reconstituted turquoise is made from turquoise powder bound with resin.

Our Blue and Green Turquoise are dyed howlite, one of the most common turquoise imitations. African Turquoise is actually a jasper, not turquoise.

PureTrade Gems supplies wholesale turquoise to UK shops, market traders and other trade buyers.
